Hi T,
I believe you said once that you liked Pacific preamp more than
Analogue Addicts preamp. In what sense? Any recommended passive part
types? I guess 2SK369BL (from VSE) could be used as a replacement for
2SK170. I have to throw something together quickly and the batteries
are waiting.

More natural, open, realistic. Not HUGELY so, but materially.

We used Holco resistors (old non-magnetic), Styroflex (Tinfoil) RIAA
Cap's and Arcotronics KP 1.72 Foil & Film Coupling Caps (so basically
my usual prosaic mix of "non audiophile but industrial" parts).
Toshiba dual versions for the 2SK170 (the two seperate transistors
factory matched and clamped together with an aluminum shell, ceramic
tag strips and point to point wiring all along.
Originally using PP3 NIMH Batteries we recently changed to a
modified, off the shelf plug top 24V SMPS.... It sounds at least as
good as the NIMH Cells but does not need re-charging... ;-)
Case spruce plywood clad internally with copper foil. Common violin
lacquer (not C37).

Do you see any problem with using 2SK369BL instead of 2SK170? (it's a
replacement for the old 2SK147 and has twice the gM of a 170) (Joe in
Oz (from VSE) has matched pairs. But I will check local sources of
2SK170 first.)
